month, 30 states will have voted. if the election was today, president obama has command. in battleground states from nevada, up to new hampshire and down to florida in nine battle ground states, the president is in command of this race and that's not an assessment of the polls, although he has an advantage in the polls but republicans in the romney campaign as well. that doesn't mean this race is over. there are a lot of things can happen. the debate next week. there is a recognition inside the romney campaign that governor romney needs to sort of find within him to make a better argument, a clear argument through advertising and other things. and we still have time to see him do that. gwen: and we are talking dozens of polls that we have been all reading and consuming for the last couple of weeks, to the point that people say, should we believe these polls especially when they make a uniform turn, what are you hearing about that? >> the polls are moving in the direction that jeff talked about, so there might be that type of fault or fault with another poll, but you can't ig

that obama was going to be re-elected, that the likelihood or the possibility of israel attacking the iranian reactor before the election with the expectation they wouldn't get as good a deal in the second term of obama increased. and yesterday i think he took that off the table. i think now he's talking about next spring, and i think so there is less like leehood of that. but it can happen at any time. foreign policy can occur but the problem that mitt romney has is he hasn't risen to the commander in chief level that people believe that he is and when he chose paul ryan he didn't fill out his resume. he chose not to go in that direction. >> foreign policy. >> i do agree, what bebe said was the key thing which is that we've got several months until next spring. and so that means if there is ever going to be a military attack it will not be pre-election t won't be any time soon. so that lowers the temperature on that issue. whether the administration has a plausible strategy, they have a good principles which is that we cannot tolerate contain, we can't contain a nuclear iran. the

. this is counterproductive. i think the american government, you know, people are happy with obama being elected, and now they are disappointed for what was not done, but at the end, the united states of america, they have a very bad reputation in the arab world, and it's wrong sometimes; is sometimes is rights. the way they are dealing with people, the way they are neglecting people. i'm sorry, when you read the newspaper and you watch tv, you have a sense that the blood of arabs is less valuable than the blood of americans, and if a civilization is getting this sense, there's something wrong. you have to value the blood of people. you have to value innocence of the arabs as much as you value the blood of innocent americans. i would say to the president be consistent, use your principles, and support more the people, less the armies even in egypt, and be consistent with israel and the palestinians, and anything that has to do with transparency and no corruption in the muslim majority countries. consistency's the answer. >> thank you, professor. >> thank you. i'm trying to sympathize a c

right. both of talented debaters. obama has some advantages. he's debated in the general election stage before. romney has the advantage of having simply debated more over the last year. so i think it's kind of an even stage there, but the situation is not comparable to reagan versus carter. the economic metrics when carter was running for re- election were extremely negative, much more negative than they are today, and just this last week, polls show that the pub has more confidence in the president's economic views and vision and program than romney. so he has lost the one advantage that he once had. secondly, there were a lot of independent, undecided voters in 1980 who had lost faith in carter and were just waiting to see if they could feel confidence in his challenger. there are so few independent voters. this is an election that's about mobilizing the bases. so going after the independent voter is not a big surprise. having said all that in the memo put out by david axelrod -- >> who is who? >> he's the campaign guru on the obama side. >> right. >> he points out that five of
